Set on ninety acres of protected desert beside Joshua Tree National Park, this is one of the most photographed private houses in America — a long, low volume clad entirely in mirror, so the building reads as sky and sand rather than structure. The land comes with its own mountain peak, walking trails and a stillness that is hard to find within reach of Palm Springs.
Inside, the house is a single sweep of glass and clean line. Floor-to-ceiling sliding walls open the living spaces to the desert, and a 100-foot heated pool runs indoors along the main axis of the house — a genuinely singular thing to swim in at night. Three bedrooms sit within the main residence, each spare, calm and precisely finished; a detached casita can add a fourth by arrangement.
The house is built to a near-zero carbon standard, which suits the setting: evenings here are about the terrace, the silence and an enormous night sky.
